Your Own Shoes

Your Own Shoes

The saying goes:
you have to walk
a mile in someone’s
shoes to understand
them, but the actual
wisdom is—you can’t
understand fully what
it means to be another.
The only shoes you
should try to fill and
fill fully are your own.
Each of us has to walk
down the road beneath
our own feet, looking
neither left nor right.
Your powers of perception
are meant for you to see
ahead of you—of you.
